Yoakum Annex
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, minimizes safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
Yoakum ISD Dress Code Policy
The District prohibits pictures, emblems, or writings on clothing that
- Are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene.
- Advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other substance prohibited under FNCF(LEGAL).
Yoakum Annex requires students to adhere to the following:
- No spaghetti straps
- Shorts/skirts must be of appropriate length.
- Students must wear tennis shoes to school. Students will not be allowed to change shoes during the school day.
- Boys must have hair no longer than the back collar of their shirt, and no longer than their eyebrows in the front.
- Girls must have their hair neat as well.
- Boys are not allowed to wear earrings on campus.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school and return to the classroom. If the problem cannot be corrected at school, the principal will work with the student and parent to obtain an acceptable change of clothing for the student in a way that minimizes loss of instructional time.
Repeated or severe offenses may result in more serious disciplinary action in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
Yoakum Primary
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
Shirts:
- Students may wear any polo style shirts with a collar and/or button down shirt with a collar. Shirts with collars may be of any color/design as long as it is deemed appropriate. Students may also choose to wear any Yoakum Bulldog/spirit t-shirt to school.
Bottoms:
- Boys may wear pants and/or shorts
- Female students may wear pants, shorts, skirts and/or skorts. It is encouraged that students who wear a dress and/or a skirt should wear shorts underneath (students have PE and play outside each day).
- All bottoms must fit appropriately at the waist, and be free of holes. Boxer and/or spandex shorts are not acceptable to be worn at school as outerwear.
- The length of shorts/skirts/dresses should not be shorter than the longest finger tip when hands are held at the student's side.
Male Students:
- May not wear earrings
Shoes:
- Students must wear tennis shoes to school every day. Students will have PE and/or outside play time every day and must have tennis shoes on to participate.
Hair:
• Student’s hair must be well kept, of natural color and does not disrupt the students view
Students at Yoakum Primary will have many opportunities to dress out of the dress code and participate in dress up days. During these days, students must abide by the following: wear tennis shoes, shorts/dress of appropriate length, sleeves on the shirt and no holes in their shorts/pants/jeans.

Yoakum Intermediate
Dress and Grooming (All Grade Levels)
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, if they comply with the following:
Shirts:
Buttoned oxford or polo shirts/blouses will be worn. All shirts will be free of words and/or pictures, etc. Logos (Izod, Polo, Dockers, etc.) may not be any larger than 1-inch square. All shirt buttons, except the collar button, must be always buttoned. All shirts will have a collar and sleeves. An approved Yoakum Bulldog school spirit shirt (including t-shirts) may be worn on any day of the week. The original construction of the Yoakum Bulldog spirit shirt cannot be modified or altered. No oversized T-shirts or shirts/blouses will be allowed.
Bottoms:
Male students shall wear either pants or shorts. Female students will be allowed to wear pants, shorts, skorts, or skirts. All bottoms must fit appropriately at the waist, be neatly hemmed, and be free of oversized logos, words and decorations. Company logos on back pockets are permitted. No skin may show through any holes in jeans or shorts. Pants shall not be overly tight, baggy, and/or low riding. Pants must be hemmed and not frayed. Boxers, tights, leotards, and spandex shorts are not acceptable as outerwear. If pants are loose around the waist, a belt is required.
Sweaters, Sweatshirts, Jackets and Coats Sweaters:
Sweatshirts, jackets and coats may be worn as outerwear over standardized shirts. This includes hooded sweatshirts. These garments will not be limited other than restriction of offensive words or logos. These garments may not hang lower than the back pockets. School administrators reserve the right to make judgment calls concerning restriction of outer garments.
Male Students:
Boys are not allowed to wear earrings or posts.
Boys are not allowed to wear sagging pants.
Boys must be clean-shaven. Distracting hairstyles are not acceptable. Hair should not cover the eyes. The hair on the side may cover the ear to the bottom of the ear lobe but must be trimmed and neat. Boys may not wear beads in their hair or have ponytails. Hair may not hang on the sides of the face when the head is bowed. Hair must be one natural color. Designs cut into the hair are not acceptable.
Female Students:
Proper undergarments and/or foundation garments must be worn.
Transparent blouses are not allowed. Dresses or tops cannot be cut lower than the armpit. Modest necklines are required for the front and back of garments. Spaghetti straps are not permitted.
The length of the shorts, skirts, and dresses must be no shorter than the tip of the middle fingers of the hand, with arms down beside the body and shoulders straight. The slit of a skirt must not extend beyond the fingertips. Shorts may not be tight fitting. Cut-off jeans and spandex/cycling shorts will not be allowed.
**Additional Dress/Grooming Guidelines for Intermediate **
- On regular school days, students should wear clothes and shoes that are appropriate for participation in P.E. class (tennis shoes, shirt, shorts, or pants).
- Caps/hats: Hats and caps will not be worn at school except on designated special occasions.
- Clothing: Skulls are not permitted on any clothing. Cologne/after-shave/perfume is NOT permitted.
- Nails/Tattoos: Fake fingernails and tattoos will not be permitted.
- Jewelry/Earrings: Earrings may be worn by girls but only permitted on the bottom lobe of the ear. No large or dangling earrings. No earrings will be worn by boys, including temporary posts. Grills are also not permitted. Long jewelry and chains will not be permitted.
- Shoes: Shoes must be worn. NO Flip-flops. NO Crocs. Shoes must be free of steel taps.
If the principal determines that a student’s grooming or clothing violates the school’s dress code, the student will be given an opportunity to correct the problem at school and return to the classroom. If the problem cannot be corrected at school, the principal will work with the student and parent to obtain an acceptable change of clothing for the student in a way that minimizes loss of instructional time.

Yoakum Junior High
Dress and Grooming (All Grade Levels) 2025-2026
The district’s dress code teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, minimizes safety hazards, and maintains a positive learning climate. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
All Students
- Shirts - Buttoned oxford (western-style permissible) or polo shirts/blouses will be worn. All shirts will be free of words and/or pictures, etc. Logos (Izod, Polo, Dockers, etc.) may not be any larger than 1-inch square. All shirt buttons, except the collar button, must be buttoned at all times. Shirts may be a plain color with no holes. An approved, Yoakum Bulldog, school spirit shirt (including t-shirts) may be worn. The original construction of the Yoakum Bulldog spirit shirt cannot be modified or altered. No oversized or undersized t-shirts or shirts/blouses will be allowed. No transparent garments allowed. Dresses or tops cannot be cut below the armpit. Modest neckline required. No spaghetti straps.
- Bottoms - Male students shall wear either pants or shorts. Female students will be allowed to wear pants or shorts. All shorts are required to be finger-tip length or longer. All bottoms must fit appropriately at the waist, be neatly hemmed, and be free of oversized logos, words and decorations. Company logos on back pockets are permitted. Pants with holes/tears may not be worn. Pants or jeans with holes require a patch to be sewn into the pant/jean. Pants, trouser, or slacks shall not be overly tight, baggy, and/or low riding. Pants must be hemmed and not frayed. Nylon, athletic, wind pants or sweatpants are not acceptable. Boxer or spandex shorts are not acceptable as outer wear. If pants have belt loops, a belt is required. Cut-off jeans, gym shorts, and spandex/cycling shorts are not permitted.
- Sweaters, Sweatshirts, Jackets and Coats - Sweaters, sweatshirts, jackets and coats may be worn as outer wear over standardized shirts. This includes hooded sweatshirts. - Shoes - Crocs, slides, and similar type shoes will not be permitted. No house shoes or slippers are allowed.
- Tattoos - Tattoos must be completely covered at all times.

Personal Items - Students are allowed a to carry a water bottle during the day. It must be clear, have a lid and be spill proof. Cell Phones/Headphones/Airpods are not allowed to be visible during the school day. Headphones are not allowed to be visible during the school day.

Universal Hair Code - Hair must be well groomed and of a natural color. Must be out of the eye line. If it cannot be kept out of the eye line, student will be required to have hair pulled back or braided. Hair styles must not be distracting or unsafe in nature or design (i.e.-mohawks, faux hawks, spikes, height or shape, etc.). No shaved designs or symbols will be allowed to be cut in hair. Administration has sole discretion of what is distracting and unsafe.
Male Students
- Boys are not allowed to have piercings or wear earrings.
- Boys are not allowed to wear sagging pants.
- Boys must be clean-shaven.
Female Students
- Females are not allowed to have piercings other than earrings.
- Proper undergarments and/or foundation garments must be worn.
- The length of the shorts, skirts, and dresses must be no shorter than the tip of the middle fingers of the hand, with arms down beside the body and shoulders straight. The slit of a skirt must not extend beyond the fingertips.
* Students who disregard rules on grooming or dress are guilty of insubordination and will be subject to disciplinary action. (See FO, FOA, FOD)
* The administration reserves the right to make judgment calls concerning the appropriateness of dress and grooming when necessary including new fads and fashions.
* Certain extracurricular activities may have higher standards to abide by than the District Code of Conduct and campus dress code. The coaches and sponsors of the extracurricular activities will set acceptable standards for their particular area. Students may be denied participation in an activity for violating the extracurricular standards of behavior.
All staff members are expected to assist in the enforcement of the student dress code. Students may be given an opportunity to correct the dress code violation. If student is unable to make correction, disciplinary action shall be taken.
Exception: Wednesdays Only - To promote College, Career, and Military Readiness, students and staff may wear university, collegiate, technical school, or military shirts that are aligned with the school dress code. All dress code requirements must be met, other than the logo requirements.

Yoakum High School
The district’s dress code, adopted by the School Board in 2023, is established to teach grooming and hygiene, prevent disruption, and minimize safety hazards. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:
ALL STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOL:
Shirts
Buttoned oxford (western-style permissible) or polo shirts/blouses will be worn. All shirts will be free of words and/or pictures, etc. Logos (Izod, Polo, Dockers, etc.) may not be any larger than 1-inch square. All shirt buttons, except the collar button, must be buttoned at all times. Solid-color t-shirts may be worn. They must be without holes and may be any solid color other than white. An approved Yoakum Bulldog school spirit shirt (including t-shirts) may be worn. The original construction of the Yoakum Bulldog spirit shirt cannot be modified or altered. No oversized or undersized t-shirts or shirts/blouses will be allowed. No transparent garments allowed. Dresses or tops cannot be cut below the armpit. Modest neckline required. No spaghetti straps.

Personal Communication Devices
In order to comply with state law, personal communications devices must be turned off and stored in the student's backpack during school hours. Any violation will incur disciplinary measures.
Guidelines for the Yoakum ISD’s Cell Phone Policy include:
- Students must have cell phones and other personal electronic devices put away and out of sight while at school.
- Students may not use their cell phones on campus during school hours.
- Cell phones must be silenced and turned off during school hours.
- Students will not be allowed to wear smart watches, airpods, headphones, or other communication devices during school hours.
- Students may have devices, but they must be turned off and stored properly in their backpacks or classroom’s designated area.
- Cell Phones are prohibited from restrooms and locker room areas.
- Earphones or Airpods are not allowed to be worn in the classroom or during transition.G
Personal Communication Devices are any electronic device capable of telecommunication or digital communication. This includes (but is not limited to):
- Cell phones such as a smartphone or flip phone
- Telephone
- Tablet
- Smartwatch
- Radio device
- Paging device
- Airpods, headphones
Exceptions may include:
- Devices provided by schools to students for instructions.
- Devices necessary to implement an individualized education program (IEP) or Section 504.
- Devices for a student with documented need based on the directive from a qualified physician.
- Devices necessary to comply with a health or safety requirement imposed by law or as a part of the district's or school's safety protocols.
Students who use their smartphone to monitor a health condition will be required to follow all other rules and guidelines. The exception serves to allow students to continue to monitor their condition as part of their 504 accommodations or individual health plan. All other expectations will be enforced. Parents should reach out to campus administration for approval.
